The Expat before he became an Expat. Sitting in my office in Johannesburg, South Africa |
More about who I am...
Growing up in Apartheid South Africa, travelling was an almost unthinkable luxury. One, because all South African passport holders were subjected to global sanctions and 2, because even if we could travel... the policies of the country was to keep South Africans who weren't fortunate enough to be born White, in abject poverty. Consequently, as a Black South African, most couldn't afford to travel beyond their immediate surroundings, let alone to other parts of the world.
It is within this context that the urge to travel the world was cultivated... almost secretly, deep inside the yearnings of the mind.
Today, I have travelled to most parts of the world. Having visited more than 30 countries, I thought the ideal would be to live and work abroad. I have just completed my second year living abroad as an Expat, and it still feels like only yesterday that we decided to pack up the family and move into the unknown.
This blog is my attempt to share the experiences and learnings with all who are Expats, and all who contemplate of becoming Expats.
