Muslims in America

So the Quran was never burnt by the loony Preacher and sanity prevailed. At least, he had his 15 minutes of fame, and I hope he is smart enough to capitalise on it all.

The whole drama, to my mind, raised a completely different issue... that of the manner in which Islam (and Muslims) are viewed in the USA.

The USA is in the grip of Mid Term election fever and the emotional issue that all is grappling with the building of a mosque in downtown Manhatten.

Populist outpouring against the mosque... It is evident the protest is not about a mosque, but about Islam in the USA!

The American economy is in tatters, the currency is at its lowest for many a decade, their unemployment rate is the equivalent of many a developing economy, banks reposses peoples homes by the hundreds of thousands every month, more than 10 million illegal immigrants in their country, and they worry about a mosque being built in Manhatten...? In any normal election in the USA, an unemployment rate of almost 10% is enough for the incumbent party to be booted out of office... yet the issue they choose to raise is not the economy, or unemployment... but rather... there are Muslims who want to build a mosque in Manhatten!

Any additional further analysis to this incredulous fact... cannot add more weight to the argument that the American distrust of Muslims are so deep seated... that it supercedes their concern for the issue of their collective economic well being.

They seem to be saying, we'd rather get poorer, but we don't want them Muslims building a mosque.

His poster should have read... "I need a Job!"

America dont seem to learn from the lessons of History... the way they are going on now seems eerily close to the way Hitler went on when he denigraded the Jewish community and stirred up national sentiment that the arian race will be contaminated if they allow Jews and Blacks to live in the Reich...

Wake up America... you seem to be losing your podium place you held for so long in the world...!
